Step #7: Employee(s) registration with KPF

Once a business license is issued by the MTCIC, it is a legal requirement to register as an employer with the Kiribati Provident Fund (KPF).

Any employer hiring individuals earning a monthly income must apply for registration within 10 days of starting operations.

Registration must be done manually, after which a registration number and Certificate of Registration are issued. This number must be used by the employer in all correspondence and documents related to KPF contributions.

Employers must also ensure that all employees register with the Fund within 30 days of starting employment by completing the Employee Registration Form for Membership.

Contribution Requirements: Since 2001, contributions to the KPF are set at 15% of the employee's wage, 7.5% paid by the employer and 7.5% deducted from the employee's salary. Both portions must be submitted to the KPF by the 15th of the month following the payment period.
